TESTIMONY OF A BINOMIAL: Nahuel and his dogs Lupo and Milka.
“My name is Nahuel Fraga. I'm 23 and I live in Lanús, in the province of Buenos Aires.
I'm a fire protection technician and I work for the Buenos Aires City Fire Department. I've been a member of the ACECC since I was 13, where I trained search and rescue dogs.
I had the pleasure of training my first dog, Lupo. Lupo is now enjoying family life in my home as he has retired. With him, I took part in several operations, including the last earthquake in Mexico City, in the Federal District.
Today, Milka, a 3-year-old Border Collie, is trained to search for living people in collapsed structures and vast areas.
I've been an official volunteer firefighter for 7 years: I started very young, my family having a long career as a firefighter that began with my great-grandfather.
Within the fire station, I carry out duties in the training department, in the induction course (CBI) and in the clothing department.”
Disaster search dogs have become vital lifesavers across the world since their introduction during the middle of the 20th century. Their outstanding sense of smell, calm, intelligence, loyalty and versatility enable them to excel in search and rescue tasks.
