The Royal Canin Foundation supports projects that highlight the positive role of pets in human health and welfare.
We build a better world with the help of cats and dogs
The vocation of the Royal Canin Foundation is to support the role of pets in human health and welfare. The Foundation aims to build human and social capital. It also aims at amplifying existing projects and bring a common direction to the many initiatives carried out today.
Our Projects
Governed independently, the Foundation aims to build human and social capital, which represents investments in knowledge, talent, diversity and relationships with stakeholders. This team work helps to support projects where a pets’ role benefits human health.

Learn moreScience facts: Health benefits of human-animal interaction
The relationship between humans and pets has always been a special and enduring bond. Numerous research on human animal interaction (HAI) have been conducted, proving the benefits on human health and welfare, attesting for instance that pet ownership, particularly dog ownership, is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and better overall heart health, or that pets can provide emotional support to children, help them deal with stress, be more self confident and understand responsibility. Because nothing compares to scientific knowledge helping to inform practitioners and policy making, for almost forty years the Waltham Petcare Science Institute has been researching human animal interaction with dozens of papers published over the years, all helping to better understand the human-animal bond and how certain populations may benefit from these interactions.
